Impact of COVID-19 related stressors on mental health in junior medical students

Introduction: Concern for mental health consequences in general population world­wide has been apparent since the start of actual pandemic. Aim study was to assess impact COVID-19 related stressors on junior medical students during December 2020 lockdown. Material and methods: The investigation included 275 second-year aged 19-28 years, from Faculty Medicine, Ss. Cyril Methodius University Skopje 2020. Self-administered questionnaire containing standardized instruments assessment parameters psychological distress (BAI, BDI PSS) were used. attitudes status testing infection, self-perceived levels concerns academics [COVID-19-AA (academic apprehensions)] those self family/friends [COVID-19-GA (general included. Results: prevalence anxiety, depression stress 74.9%, 43.3% 78.9%, respectively. Almost 29% reported high 6.2% had severe 21.45% perceived stress. There a significant positive correlation between GA score BAI, и PSS scores (p<0.05). Correlations AA scales also statistically (p=0.0000). Academic apprehension found predictive factor (R2 = .12, F (1,273) 38.79, p < .001. β 1.12, .001). Conclusion: General academic have negative effects wellbeing second year students.
